The GSW-H1000, part of Casio’s rugged G-Squad Pro lineup, has a host of sports features and is also the first G-Shock watch with a color display. People usually associate the ’80s with neon Day-Glo colors, and there was certainly a lot of that, but there were also some really fantastic color combinations that were more subtle and cool. It would have been fun g shock watch to have “Pulse Code Modulation” on the strap, but that doesn’t make any sense on a watch. These mostly transparent cases for Casio watches are relatively new because, until recently, I believe it was hard to create a stable material that did not discolor over time. For example, earlier transparent plastic watch cases would mostly turn yellow over time.

Or a khaki military inspired colorway, or…well, you get the idea. Thankfully, Casio seems to provide a steady supply of these less expensive models, so you can readily snag one.
I’ve never had a problem with my G-Shock watches rusting from saltwater, but I was fishing and diving once or twice a week so it wasn’t constant exposure. The G-Shock Gulfman G9100 uses titanium parts and is officially rust-resistant g shock watch (it says “Rust Resist” on the band), and it has a tide graph. I think the tide graph can be useful but it gives limited information and does not predict the actual heights like a more comprehensive tide chart would.
The three-handed design and smaller size may appeal the first-time G-Shock buyer who wants a more traditional style and who may be apprehensive about the larger sizes of other G-Shock models.
