(Mudmaster GW-9300, not G-9300, also has Multi-Band 6 and carbon fiber strap keeper but that is a Japan-only model). Rangeman is an excellent choice for an outdoor watch and has a lot more features than the Mudman G-9300. That would be a great choice, keep in mind it is a larger watch. Positives are that it looks great with large analog-digital display, has Triple Sensor and Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6. Negative is that it is one of the more expensive Triple Sensor G-Shock watches. I think any G-Shock watch is suitable for extreme travel and will be fine in the mud and sand.
They both have the Triple Sensor Version 3, so the sensor performance should be equal. The Rangeman is tougher, and water-resistant to 200 meters versus 100 meters for the PRW-6100. If you want a very tough watch with the Triple Sensor I would go with the Rangeman, Gulfmaster GWN-1000, or Mudmaster GWG-1000.
All of the watches in the series use carbon core construction in the inner casing to make them slimmer and lighter. The resin bands are made to be easily removed and interchangeable with a variety of bands sold separately. With its classic, chunky G-Shock look, the GA -700 is Casio’s popular all-resin watch. In addition to a 52.8 mm resin case, band, and stationary bezel, resin molding technology is used to fashion hands and hour indices markers that have a shiny metallic look. The illumination is ok, lighting up only the analog part of the watch, and some may find the analog-digital combo more annoying than useful .
There is also the GW ER which has a standard LCD display but for some reason it never got a U.S. release so it is more expensive to obtain. I think the Tough Solar and Multi-Band timekeeping features will always be useful. I am still wearing a GWM5600A-3 from ten years ago and haven’t had to change the battery yet. Mudman G-9300 has a compass and thermometer and Rangeman GW-9400 has an altimeter, barometer, compass, and thermometer. They both have Tough Solar power but Rangeman also has Multi-Band 6 time syncing.
The most common strap adapters are for the 5600 series, DW/GW-6900, and Rangeman, but those are digital models. There are also strap adapters for the GD/GA-1XX watches but none of those are solar. If you are worried about the seal you can do a pressure test at a watch store after changing the battery.
I’m a Surveyor I live upland but travel by sea, I work in difficult and rough terrains, swamps and creeks. I need a quality and rough time piece with state of the art features. I’m stuck with the choice of Casio GWN Q1000-1A and GPW 1000-B. I love the offering of the sea features but missing the GPS feature on the Gravity master, please help. GA-120 has estimated battery life of 3 years versus 2 years for the GA-110. I’ve decided to get the GWM as my first G-Shock based on it being the thinnest G-Shock model I can find at 12.7mm. It also has most of the features I am looking for and costs less than $100.
A huge range of metrics can be tracked and you can also view barometer and thermometer readings. It’s not just the big-name Swiss watchmakers who have their fingers in sea-bearing timepieces, but G-Shock has a capable seadog companion of its own. The Gulfmaster can measure atmospheric pressure and temperatures and provide the wearer with a compass along with tide graphs and moon age display. There’s a whole host of other features buried within to keep you safe on the high seas.
Lately he’s been drawn to trinket-like watches that are more fun and require a substantially lower financial investment. As he put it, “you really start thinking about what else is out there,” beyond the big-name Swiss manufacturers. Mr. Ramos was lucky enough to secure one of Mr. Mayer’s coveted G-Shock models through Hodinkee. Come bedtime, he even straps on one that lights up so he can check the time when his 1-year-old wakes him in the middle of the night.
These watches have been inspired by a bouncing rubber ball and designed by legendary engineer Kikuo Ibe and his team known as “Team Tough”. The watches have indeed undergone a number of changes in terms of design and colour since the first G-Shock, the model DW-5000C, was launched in 1983. The watches with a profile diameter of 48.6mm have a case and straps made of resin.
