The watch’s features are controlled by a set of four quite substantial pushers that protrude from the MUDMASTER’s case, but are still well protected. This is just one of the many benefits of the carbon fiber-based frame. There’s little chance of a button being dislodged, even under the most severe impact. Casio’s G-Shock line of affordable, durable and all-around everything-resistant watches has been going strong for the better part of half a century. G-Shock watches are well-built, durable, and stylish in a do-everything, take-no-prisoners, vintage kind of way.
That’s a tall order, but Casio’s G-SHOCK MUDMASTER GG-B100 watch has been built to meet the challenge of these extreme environments. The key to the G-SHOCK’s incredible performance is its Carbon Core Guard structure. This shock-resistant carbon core guard protects the watch’s vitals to assure proper function regardless of terrain or weather conditions. Using carbon for the watch’s core saves weight and adds strength, as it has a tensile strength ten times that of iron and yet weighs far less. The carbon case also allowed Casio designers to develop a new structure of shock-resistant button. Doing so also let them remove button guards from the exterior, which helps streamline the G-SHOCK’s look.
They’re show pieces that see the lid of a box more than the world. The Mudmaster has been designed to withstand the toughest of conditions. With a digital compass, barometer, altimeter, thermometer and step tracker, you’ll reach your goal even when challenges seem insurmountable. MUDMASTER – the perfect union of toughness and technical finesse.

A spherical glass and mineral glass provide dual-layer protection for the dial, while dual LED lights make it easy to check the time even when you’re on the trail at night. The G-Shock Mudmaster was designed and engineered to withstand rough land environments. The case is made of high-rigidity carbon material to protect against damage and deformation due to impact and other rough treatment, while metal button pipes ensure a tighter seal against the external environment. A filter further protects against the invasion of mud, for the high level of dust and mud resistance required when in severe environments. In addition, the dual back cover consists of a stainless steel panel back and an outer cover made of shock-resistant fine resin embedded with glass fibers. The bezel is formed of three layers of fine resin with carbon fiber inserts.
Casio’s work on contrast as a concept on analog dials is getting better and better each year, and the brand is still producing designs that are visually engaging and detailed. I do, however, want to see Casio work with better luminant in the future. They probably don’t put too much stock in it since this and all other G-Shock watches have a bright white LED backlight for the dial. I love the dedicated pushers for things such as the compass. While a lot of digital watches like to boast tons of features, none of those features really matter unless the timepiece’s user interface makes using those tools accessible.
