Overall, it simply looks classier than other analog-digital G-Shock models in the same price range. The hour markers are large and clear rectangles with easy to read hour and minute hands. Of course, there is no second hand as this is taken care of by the digital display. That is done using a unique angled screen between 3 and 6 o’clock and helps you control all the other functions. As I mentioned previously, the time may be difficult to read at night using the analog hands, but the digital display solves this problem. A small light can be activated that perfectly illuminates the digital display and provides enough light to adequately read the time using the handset.
The Dial is protected with mineral glass, with 200M water resistance which is good enough for a regular G-shock. There are other functions like the 31 countries’ timezone, with an accuracy of (+-)15 seconds of time accuracy. the only point that got me mesmerized was that in such a thin how could anyone add so many functions? If you plan on, using the actual functions of the watch like the timer or stopwatch you could be waiting a while to get going.
This would make sense and be on-brand for Casio as G-Shocks have always fit a variety of personal styles. It’s not only remarkably affordable for a watch that is basking in such intense hype, it’s also notably affordable for a G-Shock. At £99.90, it sits at the least expensive price point across the entire brand. Frankly, for that amount of money, if you want to see what all the fuss is about, it’s almost hard to justify not buying it. The watch is made to take a beating and can handle shocks and bangs without any issues.
The battery supplies the watch with sufficient energy for approx. Casio’s traditional four-screw stainless steel caseback is engraved with the Carbon Core Guard logo. Should Casio introduce other colors, you’ll be able to mix and match the straps. Japan-cased watches carry the JF suffix, at a price premium of about 40 to 100 percent. Considering G-SHOCK’s automated assembly, I’m not sure it makes any difference where the factory is located, at least in terms of quality.
Allowing you to customise the look, it comes fitted with an interchangeable strap, and to finish, it’s water resistant for up to 200 metres. All three of the original GA-2100 versions have a negative liquid crystal screen with light colored letters. The other two are black , blending in well with the rest of the watch face. There’s a supplementary half dial – indicating the day – next to the 9 o’clock index, and a small digital screen positioned in the lower right quadrant. In Timekeeping mode, they can be toggled between date/seconds and time/seconds. The GA-2100 sword-shaped minute and hour hands won’t please lumatics, but the lume’s bright enough for one-handed time check in the dark, and it saves battery power.
Zach is a native of New Hampshire, and he has been interested in watches since the age of 13, when he walked into Macy’s and bought a gaudy, quartz, two-tone Citizen chronograph with his hard earned Bar Mitzvah money. It was lost in a move years ago, but he continues to hunt for a similar piece on eBay. Zach loves a wide variety of watches, but leans toward classic designs and proportions that have stood the test of time.
